The Red Mansion Art Prize was established to promote artistic exchange between China and the UK. In addition to the six long-standing colleges (The Royal Academy Schools, The Royal College of Art, Chelsea College of Art, Central St. Martin, Slade School and Goldsmiths College), in 2006 we also invited the Ruskin School in Oxford to take part in the Art Prize competition. Each college short-lists six post-graduate students from which The Red Mansion panel of judges selects six winners, one winner for each college. The winners travel to China during the summer where they are given studio space and live and work alongside local artists. Flights, accommodation and living expenses are provided.
The 2008 panel of judges was composed of Ossian Ward (Visual Art Editor for Time Out magazine), Matthew Collings (Artist, Writer, Broadcaster and Critic), Phyllida Barlow (Professor, Director of Studies, Undergraduate Programmes, and Undergraduate Tutor at the Slade School of Fine Arts) and Nicolette Kwok (Director of The Red Mansion Foundation).

The Judges have made a diverse and exciting selection. This year's talented winners will travel to China during the summer for a period of one month. The Red Mansion Foundation will hold an exhibition of the students' works in London on their return from China. The Foundation will invite you then to meet and see the works created by the student's experiences in what will be a fascinating insight into Chinese culture.
